BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Desirée has a unique understanding of the science and aesthetics of regeneration, art, and health. She is an artist, a medical doctor (MD), and a doctor of philosophy (PhD), as well as a scientist and inventor in the stem cell and regenerative medicine space.
The first Bahamian Rhodes Scholar and the first woman to win a British Caribbean Rhodes Scholarship, she has earned degrees from McGill University (Canada), Oxford University (UK), and Cambridge University (UK). She is also the CEO and founder of HEALinc and the HEALinc Future Health Innovation Summits, a movement-based organization with the mandate of championing a future health paradigm where medical therapy is driven by personal health and regenerative wellness (www.healincsummit.com).
Dr. Desirée’s art operates on three unique levels – abstract, object, and motion. When you first look at an original Dr. Desirée painting, you see an abstract pattern reminiscent of the kinds of patterns seen throughout nature and natural forms. Upon looking deeper, you might perceive a structural form or subjective object – a hummingbird, a butterfly, a puppy, a child playing in tall grass. Look longer and you’ll experience the subtle, intricate motion of the object and how it moves within the context of the work. These three levels function together, centering you and helping you become more present in the moment, more engaged. It allows you to form a deeper emotional, regenerative connection to your painting.
Much of Dr. Desirée’s artistic vision is rooted in her African and Caribbean ancestry. As a native Bahamian, she cites the progressive performance art of Junkanoo as her inspiration for the copious amount of color she uses in her work. A vibrant bi-annual Bahamian street parade focused on bringing together people from all walks of life, Junkanoo was Dr. Desirée’s muse for her carefully chosen and deliberately limited color palette, which she affectionately refers to as her “Junkanoo Color Chords.” Dr. Desirée’s paintings pay homage to the African diaspora and her Caribbean descent while simultaneously bridging the gap between heritage and modernity.
Understanding Dr. Desirée’s art is key to fully experiencing her work on the mind, body, and spirit. Studies show that an ‘enriched environment’ can activate stem cells in the brain, which is part of our innate system for regeneration. Health is a creative process, and regenerative health requires imagination. Dr. Desirée’s paintings draw on the science of light, color, and abstraction to create sacred, otherworldly spaces where viewers can tap into the magnificence of their imagination and activate their innate power for self-healing and self-efficacy.

STATEMENT
Creativity serves as the lifeblood of my work, my art, and my life. Engaging in a journey of creative mastery and mystery fills me with joy, and I’m deeply grateful to express my creativity and convey my truth through the symbolism of words, stories, sound, and color. My art operates on three distinct levels – abstract, object, and motion. Initially, when observing the art, you might perceive an abstract pattern reminiscent of the patterns found in nature. Upon closer inspection, you may experience a subtle, intricate motion within the object, observing its movement within the painting’s context or background. The concept is that these three layers work cohesively to center one’s presence, fostering deeper engagement and emotional connection. My aspiration is for my art to facilitate a more profound, emotional, and regenerative relationship between individuals and their lives.
During my exhibitions, I merge visual and performing arts with fiction, establishing sacred spaces where individuals can journey through the doorways of their imagination to discover inspiring worlds. Painting, particularly using oil on canvas, resonates most with me. The ‘color chords,’ or combinations in my paintings, draw inspiration from Junkanoo, a public art form originating in The Bahamas, my birthplace.
Health embodies a creative process, and regenerative health thrives on imagination. Understanding the art within your personal or work environment forms an integral part of the holistic mind-body-spirit experience. Studies demonstrate that ‘an enriched environment’ can activate stem cells in the brain, an essential aspect of our innate regeneration system. My paintings leverage the science of light, color, and abstraction to craft sacred, ethereal spaces where individuals can tap into the splendor of their own imagination, activating their inherent capacity for self-healing and self-efficacy.
