ARTSPER

BIOGRAPHY

David Roberts is a painter, draftsman and printmaker. His artworks focus on the fleeting patterns, light and interactions of the natural world.
Born on the shores of Lake Baringo in Kenya’s Rift Valley, David’s childhood was a landscape of reflections and open skies.
‘Home’ is now the frontline of climate change. This backdrop is ingrained in his work, which captures the delicacy and luminosity of nature’s own artwork.
Kenyan women’s cooperatives provide the local beeswax which finish the paintings and create a unique effect of light and depth.

CV

Graduating from the University for the Creative Arts in the UK, David moved to Florence in 2008 to study Fine Art at Firenze Arti Visive, Italy.

From 2011 he studied at the Pratt Fine Arts Centre and the Gage Academy of Art, in Seattle, USA.

He exhibits regularly in Kenya, Europe and America.

STATEMENT

My technique is a process of development, using mixed media, incorporating rice and tissue papers, acrylic paints, inks and refined beeswax. These build the painting.

Each of the layers are incredibly fragile and as delicate as the wings of an insect or petal of a flower.

The layers are what allows me to play with colour, translucency and light.
