BIOGRAPHY

Born in Fiji and raised in Sydney, Daryl Perry is an artist based in Wollongong. He is co-founder of 130 art Studios, and paints primarily large figures, portraits, land and street-scapes featuring continuous lines and exuberant colours. Daryl’s current body of work explores themes of family and kinship as well as difficult issues such as politics, war and conflict. Sport often features in Daryl’s work as a way of exploring movement and the theme of competition.

CV

Daryl studied Fine Arts in his 20s but pursued entrepreneurship through various start ups as a way to utilise his creativity. It seemed a more sensible way to earn a living rather than tough it out as a struggling artist.

During covid Daryl completed an Advance Diploma of Visual Arts (2021) where he came up with the idea of creating an artist residency, together with his good friends and artists Orlando and Fleur Norrish, 130 Art Studios was born.

130 Art Studios organically grew to become a music venue, an education centre with drawing classes and an exhibition and gallery space. A natural incubator for the visual and musical arts, 130 has a never-ending pipeline of creative ideas and projects. You can follow Daryl and 130 Art Studios on instagram @130artstudios and @darylperryart.

STATEMENT

Daryl’s work takes a critical view of social, political and cultural issues. Often referencing global injustices, sports, land and street scapes. My work explores the varying relationships between popular culture and fine art.
