STATEMENT

Beginning my career I learned many skills through the realm of realism, however, my more recent work leans toward abstraction, due to a new found inspiration of creating by drawing ideas from other avenues of art such as music and performance. My recent series “Vertigo” is the compilation of skills learned from all phases of life, studying the rhythmic flow of music and conveying in paint what the sounds draw in my mind.

In my most recently completed series of works, “Vertigo” the pieces are named after influential songs that have more or less “saved my life”. Through the power of music and art, we create the reality in which the non creators live. I have taken the lyrics and rhythmic patterns of each song and translated them into a visual field. These works are heavily representative of the world that resides in the audible and the influence music has on the mind. The hybrid of melody and lyric directly translates to my use of color, brush strokes, and figures, as well as the general flow of the painting.
