BIOGRAPHY
After graduating from The Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Bill embarked on a very successful illustration and design career. That discipline required distinctive creative solutions to communicate intent and subject matter in the arena of commercial advertising and editorial illustration. ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ was never more true.
As the commercial art world shifted to synthetic computer driven solutions, Bill (and many others), transitioned to fine art expression. That said, art IS illustration and Bill often collaborates on purpose driven commissions for residential and commercial clients.
Bill creates inventive and intriguing juxtapositions of materials to develop his unique visions. Beautiful abstract collages partner with exquisite fine brush work and gorgeous colour.
Hard edge baselines imply structure to a vibrant array of materials such as wood and metal integrated with layers of fabrics and canvas. These materials are integrated with layers of paint and other substances in techniques that create depth, movement and texture. The initial technical approach becomes an organic sculptural process.
Many works are large designed diptychs that ask the viewer to consider how the separate visuals interact and challenge each other. Harmonious, conjoined. Separate yet symbiotic.
Bill’s catalogue shows immense diversity. He will work through one ‘thought series’ and move into something completely new. This produces a variety of work for different esthetics, all within his own contemporary style. Always different – always Bill Boyko.
Bill currently resides near Toronto Canada. He is a very organized and productive creator happily ensconced in his studio where he messes around in his very purposeful way.
His work is found in corporate and private collections from coast to coast.

STATEMENT
When I started painting, I looked at subject matter in away…. what would
that look like painted? Sometimes this doesn’t work, you follow it through and no it’s not working… for me.
I usually finish everything I start, even it’s wrong… for me.
But, That’s me and not you, the person who see’s it for the first time. And the conversation I’ve had with people and what they get out of my paintings is astonishing to me.
Other than I have to make some kind of art, this keeps me going.
