BIOGRAPHY

Alexandra Albertsen is a contemporary Danish/Romanian artist whose work is inspired by her own dreams, fantasy stories and creatures. Each painting is a gate to the fantasy world created, and is guided by the vibrating spirit of Ligia, her alter-ego into the fantasy world of A Sleepy Spirit Art. Her artworks are defined by vivid and unexpected combination of colors while underneath each shape and line, lies a symbolic meaning. Most of her artworks are inspired by initial sketches with focus on a simple message with a strong impact both visually and emotionally, seeking to guide the viewer into the fantasy world and open their heart to a new and unique way of living and breathing through colors and symbols. Each piece is a carrousel of dreams and an expansion of the artist’s soul into reality, bringing happiness and opening up for fantasy, not only for the living space itself but also for the viewers visual experience.

Alexandra’s story
I’m Alexandra Albertsen — a painter, a dreamer, a full-time accountant, and someone who has never stopped believing in her dream of showing her art to the whole world. I left my home, Bucharest, Romania, to study in Denmark, in Aarhus, master’s degree in management accounting and control. I have worked hard to build a career in finance but hidden inside me was still the desire to create art. I took with me to Danmark, all my sketches and ideas on paper, including the famous drawing of Ligia and here I started to evolve as an artist, starting to post on my blog, www.asleepyspiritart.com. I have developed my artistic spirit in the same way as my career in finance, working dedicated, motivated and hopeful. I am self-taught artist that learns by doing (painting, in my case) and never stops challenging herself. I am ready to show you, my fantasy world of art! I am grateful for each site visitor, and I am sure that you will find here a piece of art that warms up your heart. Sincerely, with love Alexandra

STATEMENT

I paint with acrylic colors on canvas, rocks, wood, cardboard and ceramics. Each small piece of material inspires me to create a fantasy universe. My main themes are darkness and light, especially the infinite connection between the moon and the sun, feminine fairytale figures that represent a life or nature symbol and a slight touch of abstract with deep and sometimes quite funny meanings. My intention is to create an artwork that has a message, a small story, reveals a symbolic meaning or simply just warms up the viewers’ heart with a beautiful feeling.
