Yellow Dot

I was playing. With the wonderful shade of Magenta that called out for contrasts. Black responded as did yellow and variations on light colors. And I was playing with contrasts, as always: Hard, linear edges vs soft, non-linear, organic flows. And, in the process of all that, I made a tiny mistake – a Yellow Dot spilled into the upper corner and, just as I was preparing to fix it, I decided it might be the whole point of the painting: Spontaneous error vs meticulous cerebral effort. I had to laugh…and the piece was born. One more thought: Afterwards, I started playing with a similar structure only in Black, White and Midtones. It all provides an interesting set of contrasts between contrasts.
