Umber-stained Vista

Burnt Umber is a warm dark-brown natural earth tone pigment. Intense darker and red shades are made from burning the raw pigment found in clay. In the 17th century Baroque era, artists such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Vermeer used this pigment to create rich brown shading, contrasts, and shadows in their works. The colour is used in ‘Umber-stained Vista’, 2022 to celebrate our close connection to nature in both historical and contemporary painting contexts.
