Paul’s work, given his training, has always been close to the discipline of architecture. Many of his works have revolved around themes such as space, line and material formalisation. And they have drawn from sources such as Henry Moore and the Basque school (Oteiza, Chillida), but often expressed with Japanese semiotics, where subtlety, the value of the aesthetic, the aseptic, serenity, silence and the purity of form have been the basis of his language. On “Ambientometries”, the artist takes us on a personal plastic journey that represents the evolution of habitation, the process of the domestication of the environment by the human being. The itinerary begins with the “Orographies” (part of physical geography that deals with the description of mountains) as a first approach to the terrain. The next step is the “Stereotomies” (the art of cutting stones and other materials to be used in construction), where man’s first step in inhabiting the terrain takes shape: the cave. At a third, more advanced level, we find the “Dasonomías” (Study of the conservation, cultivation and use of the mountains), where habitation is built from natural elements, not pre-existing spaces: the hut. And at the last level, the most sophisticated, are the “Tectonies” (Relating to buildings or other works of architecture) where The living is contained, controlled, regulated and moderated for greater enjoyment of the shared space. An atmosphere full of potential. A sensorial experience arrived at through the surrounding space.
