The painting depicts the mythological figure of a firstborn goddess. According to Orphism, a mystic religion from ancient Greece, Protogonus was the primeval deity of procreation and the generation of new life. I applied old-masterly techniques as developed in oil paintings since the Renaissance: an underpainting was furnished on a gessoed wooden board. Then the painting was “built” using multiple washes, layers of color, and a finishing varnish.
