ON THE LIGHT WAY YOU ARE WITH ME WONDERFUL HUMMINGBIRD

This acrylic belongs to Selva Fauna Project about Amazonian nature and the “humanity” of its animal species. These have a gesture that is typical of their species, of their peculiar way of being in the world, but that at the same time appeals to and reflects our humanity. In the myths of the Amazon there is constant talk of a mythical era in which humans and beasts spoke a common language and where the borders between humanity and animality almost did not exist and were even sometimes invisible. Hummingbirds are the smallest bird species in the world. A newborn is the size of a 20 cent coin. The Marvelous Hummingbird is an endangered species typical of the high jungle of northern Peru, and was discovered in the mid-19th century. The male has two long tails that can be moved independently. Peru on several occasions has held the title of having the greatest diversity of birds in the world, however, conservation strategies are insufficient. In particular with this species it is a small population, with a limited range and constant loss of its habitat, which makes it vulnerable. Human progress has caused great damage to nature and the planet that shelters us, the solution is to generate empathy with all living beings, where the superiority of a human race is not exacerbated but questioned, where we value life as if it were ours of the species around us. As a spiritual animal, hummingbirds are the twin brothers that flank the gates of Paradise and they are in charge of bringing the good news to humans who have the sensitivity and good heart to perceive them.
