Free of Patterns

Ornamentals patterns are set as a contrast to the natural forms of a human face. We are all born with ingrained patterns of information reaching back through the history of nature. Yet we are the only animal with the freedom to overcome inborn patterns. Oil pastels and oil pencil has been used in an old-masterly way: the portrait was started with an underpainting on which several layers of colors were applied to create three-dimensionality.
