Escape
Much like its title suggests, “Escape” is an oil painting that depicts a young boy evading a jellyfish. He, laid-back and surrounded by a nebulous space, appears serene; his eyes remain closed and he has an absent-minded countenance.
The jellyfish, suspended in the vase depths of the sphere around it, silently orbits the boy. It attempts to wrap its tentacles around him to examine him but ultimately fails. The nebulous space proves to be impervious. The jellyfish helplessly watches as the boy floats up to the glistening light above.
The artist created distinct textures with cold wax to represent the fluid fluctuations of the jellyfish’s tentacles. She also made the young boy and the jellyfish symbiotically coexist whilst being surrounded by two different spheres (atmosphere and hydrosphere). Comparatively, the artist made the rest of the painting very flat and smooth to convey a silent stillness.
