Emboldened Grapes
This expressive work was created in response to time spent in the Barton Estate Vineyards, outside of Canberra. A year of elements such as heat, rain, hail and smoke was both unforeseen and catastrophic, and yet the vines remain, waiting. Hardened, gnarled twisty vines, new leaf buds emerging from the old. All is not lost, the time beckons for the next rotation.
This work is a chameleon whereby changing with the light of the day. From bold and bright by the light of the day, to moody and dark of an evening light.
Created on stretched linen with bamboo reed pens, lightfast pigmented ink, impasto and some brush work.
