BIOGRAPHY

Sandra Moral (1983) is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
She was born in Andalusia in a small village in southern Spain. In the heart of a family dedicated to agriculture for many generations.
The interest for paint was cultivated during her teenage years and further developed when she opted to take her Bachelors Degree in Fine Art.She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Granada and concluded her studies in Lisbon, Portugal, taking the Erasmus student scholarship in 2008.
Returning to Spain after concluding her studies in Lisbon, she found herself immersed in a way of life that limited her in terms of artistic expression, so her engagement in art came to a standstill until she moved to Berlin in 2010. A significant decision in order to resume her contact with art and further develop her artistic skills.
Slowly but steadily, she felt her commitment to art strengthened and she soon began to rediscover herself as an artist. She decided to experiment with other mediums such as sculpture and video-installation, appearing back on the scene with projects as “Walk of fame”, “ Metamorphosis I-II”, “Beastly Beauty” among others.
Introspective analysis as an individual part of a whole is the main concept of her work exploring sexuality and tragedy through different materials and mediums. A base with which she transforms emotions as a channeling bridge and internal healing.
Paying special attention during her performance to create a visual dialogue with the viewer. The result of it is expressive and provocative as well as subtle and delicate. She describes it in her own words: “my work is like showing my naked self, always a part of me is there”.

STATEMENT

Spanish multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin, city where I developed my career.
My practice includes painting, sculpture, installation and video art.
I come from a small village in the south of Spain and the mail theme in my body of work is the separation from my heteropatriarchal roots and my self discovery, realisation and acceptation with layers of trauma and feminist ideals.
My work is a way of healing wounds and a celebration of womanhood.
