BIOGRAPHY
Meysoon Katan is an Iranian artist, born in 1981 in Tehran. Her practice is centered around human behaviors and the resilience of individuals in the face of life’s challenges. Katan sees human behavior as a reflection of natural phenomena, mirroring nature’s cycles of regeneration and renewal. In her recent works, Katan has transitioned from figurative forms to organic and natural shapes. By merging organic and synthetic elements, colors, and new semiotic textures, she creates art that explores social relationships and the interaction between the living and non-living. Through her art, Katan aims to capture the vulnerabilities, liminal states, and energies that flow through the human body, rooted in both physical and intangible realms. Her exploration of organic forms and diverse techniques seeks to reveal the hidden aspects of human experience.

STATEMENT
Our presence in this world and the diverse life experiences throughout different historical periods deeply impact my perspective. Each generation holds great significance to me, especially the modern history that has influenced my narrative in painting. I focus on ordinary individuals, particularly women, who have not dictated the events and occurrences of history, yet have borne the brunt of significant decisions & incidents without recognition. Through the faces of my subjects, I explore the lasting effects of events on personal identity and character, emphasizing the resilience of people in the face of indifference. The integration of historical texture and manipulation of traditional techniques in my works help me showcase the enduring impacts of these events without the need to explicitly reenact them, thus revealing the untold stories and unseen faces of history.
