BIOGRAPHY
Marike Cools, a Dutch artist whose practice unfolds in quiet concentration and deep immersion.
When she paints, she enters her own world. A state of complete absorption where time recedes and intuition leads. Working predominantly in black, and black and white, her work draws from the visual language of early twentieth-century
theater, dance, photography, and fashion. The atmosphere of the 1920s to the 1940s, and the expressive intensity of dancers such as Nureyev and Nijinsky, resonate strongly throughout her practice.
Movement, contrast, and expression are central to her work. Drawing from photographs taken during dance projects in Amsterdam, she transforms fleeting gestures into intimate painted series on panel. Executed traditionally in oil, these
works preserve the tension between motion and stillness.

Represented by a permanent gallery in the Netherlands. Exhibited in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany. Including Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam and other international art fairs through gallery representation.

My inspiration lies in the power and mystery of the human presence — the inner life, the radiance beneath the surface, the emotion held within a single moment.
Through restrained palettes and expressive contrasts, I invites the viewer to encounter the figure not as image, but as feeling.
