BIOGRAPHY

Kristen Flynn was born in regional Queensland, Australia. Living on a farm and being the mother of two young children has forced her to feel the mortality of life and take notice of the ongoing life cycles in her rugged Australian environment. Her art practice allows her to play in a ‘grey area’ of life, where she feels free to create an embodied approach to visual communication.

CV

Flynn has a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Art and Secondary Education and is currently studying a Master’s Degree in Creative Arts through the University of Southern Queensland. Flynn’s work has been published in Vanity Fair UK magazine, British Vogue magazine, and will appear in the subways of Paris later this year. She has won numerous awards, including the ‘Mary Snow Memorial Emerging Artist’s Award’ and is currently working on her two solo exhibitions for 2024.

STATEMENT

I am a self-portrait artist that explores, life cycles, and beauty, through found objects and images from my surroundings. I create artwork to stimulate my thoughts and feelings of transcendence- a moving between worlds, whilst foregrounding the abject nature of the female body and its destiny to return to the earth. As a contemporary printmaker, my art practice merges both old and new printmaking technologies.
