United Kingdom based oil painter, Katie Egerton, is only 20 years old, studying
Fine Art at Lancaster University. Her work explores themes about intimacy, utilising the technique of magnification.
She successfully depicts her subject matter with both realism and abstraction to create carefully constructed detailed paintings.
The majority of my work currently surrounds the idea of physical connection through the use of touch; using the symbol of hands to demonstrate intimacy and vulnerability that is communicated when having a physical connection with another person. This exploration of physical connection uses magnification as a tool to expose the unseen, which creates an overall closeness and intimacy to a person which is usually overlooked. The evolution of magnification has now become my primary interest because the process deconstructs realism into abstraction, by creating unrecognizable fragments of shape and colour.
