BIOGRAPHY
Jinhee Yang was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1968. She embarked on her journey as an artist in 2001 and in 2010, she immigrated to Canada with her family.
Jinhee Yang’s artwork reflects her immigration experience and the emotions she felt through it. Particularly, the serene natural landscapes of Canada, especially Georgina, which she experienced for the first time after immigrating, had a profound influence on her work.
Her art captures the experiences of life in an unfamiliar place, dealing with language and cultural differences, and the separation and reunification with family. Her work visually expresses the complex emotions related to the choices made for happiness, conveying her personal stories and feelings.
Jinhee Yang express various materials and method in her artwork. She uses color, layering, and elements of painting to delve into the changes in emotions, personal growth, and the essence of life. STATEMENT
I am on a journey to explore my inner self using various materials and methods, creating art that presents different perspectives depending on the point of observation. Movement plays a pivotal role in my work, emphasizing the essence of ‘the present’ through momentary choices. What I come to realize through my work is the essence of life, recognizing moments that string together to depict my ongoing journey of self-discovery. Through the wings of my mind, I embark on a journey to find myself, maintaining a continuous dialogue with myself through a balance of condensed forms inspired by the beauty of nature.
