BIOGRAPHY

Gerard Russo is an Australian artist currently working out of his studio in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. Gerard’s contemporary two dimensional wall art features original copper etching illustrations/paintings. These original artworks, including the frames made using recycled fence palings, are a unique application of industrial materials. Utilising a copper composite material, and traditional etching techniques, Gerard creates original works that are illuminated from within. Gerard’s works often converses between the natural world and the built one, they encompass the conscious, transient and temporal through figurative and industrial subjects that are transient in nature.

STATEMENT

My recent work has been largely figurative, focused on exploring the tonality of the human form. I have been engrossed in experimentation with the textures of my mark making and how they can translate into the final illuminated state they have. As usual, my work seems to always attempt to deconstruct the concepts of consciousness and transience of human nature. I see beauty in the unknown I would be content if my work settled in that place.
