Gabriele Scanziani is a contemporary Swiss and Italian painter and installation artist. Born in Mendrisio, Switzerland in 1980, Scanziani is the son of a writer and a teacher. His father, who was 72 years old when he was born, started suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease when the artist was 14 years old and died 8 years later. His works are present through several private collections between Switzerland and Italy.
Working in a wide-ranging practice that incorporates a variety of different media and techniques, he investigates the meaning of identity and memory in modern times. He is noted for his use of text, recycled material, and collage. As a painter, he uses acrylic and often a scribbling method of lines and occasional words such as family, identity or even small sentences to the canvas.
