BIOGRAPHY
Cecília de Jesus (Cecília Pim) is a Portuguese ceramic artist born in Coimbra in 1994. From childhood she developed a strong interest in painting, sculpture, fashion, architecture and other forms of visual expression. Fashion has always been an important form of self expression and continues to influence her creative perspective, alongside references from designers, painting and architecture.
With a background in design and early experience experimenting with materials such as wood and metal, Cecília approaches ceramics through a multidisciplinary perspective. She began working with clay during the pandemic and primarily develops sculptural and functional pieces through handbuilding, often incorporating illustration and hand painted elements.
Having lived in Portugal and Berlin where she spent four years, Cecília has been influenced by different creative environments and communities. Curious about craft and making, she continues to explore new techniques and materials, bringing together her interests in art, design and craftsmanship through ceramics.

Her artistic training includes ceramic painting and workshops in pottery, glazing, mold making and handbuilding. Her work has been shown in collective exhibitions and recognized through creative competitions and awards.
STATEMENT
Combining Pop Art and Dada influences with humour and absurdity my ceramic sculptures deliberately embrace what is wrong: broken parts, rough surfaces, distorted scales and unexpected arrangements. Through chaos in order and sometimes kintsugi. I celebrate imperfection, uniqueness and the beauty of things that refuse to be perfect.
