BIOGRAPHY
Anja Siimes is an abstract expressionist painter based in Helsinki, Finland.
Her art explores her early experiences as a child before verbal development and being here and now as an artist, which draws on her experiences in perinatal research, psychoanalysis and training in psychosomatics and phenomenology.
Her fascination lies with the embodied, imagined, and perceptual worlds that precede cognition, words and symbols, as experienced by both babies and painters.
Her abstract style of painting best captures the minds early visual emergence as well the genesis of artistic expression, independent of consciousness: the experience of being.

STATEMENT
I love abstract expressionism.
Through expressive painting, I aim to discover something new that carries emotional significance.
I let brushes and intuition with colors and movements guide the process, allowing chance and spontaneity to shape my acrylic paintings on canvas.
In resent series of my works, I explore, through imagination and by painting, to reach early experiences and being here and now as an artist.
